Author Tuesday's presents, His Wife's Diary (Love Bites) by Peggy Eldridge-Love aka Tess Allen
1) In three words, introduce yourself.
Writer, Encourager, Believer
2) Your new book, how is it different from any other novel on the market?
My newest book, His Wife’s Diary (Love Bites), is a fast moving romantic suspense designed to pull the reader deep into its heart from the very first word. Immediately it becomes your story. This is the second in that series, and also only the second I’ve written under my pen name, Tess Allen.
3) How would you like your readers to remember you after reading your book(s)?
As someone whose next book they cannot wait to read.
4) As a writer, where do most of your ideas come from for your novel?
Normally a thought will ‘hit’ me, possibly not even hard initially, but then it won’t leave me alone. It will seem to come at me from numerous different directions, reiterating the first thought until before I know it the story is unfolding in my mind and insisting upon being written.
5) Are any of the characters you write about a close resemblance to you or a loved one?
Very rarely do they remind me of me or anyone I care about. They are composites of people who catch my attention usually. I might notice someone in the grocery store or across the room in a restaurant, see a mother kneel and touch her child in a certain way or I’ll turn around because of the music in someone’s laugh. Those kinds of people and their traits work their way into becoming the characters I create.
6) What's in the works for you next?
I have another ‘Love Bites’ in the works. It has a working title of “If Only I Had Known”. It will be a novella appetizer also. After that I’m working on a full-length novel, a suspense thriller, entitled The Absent.
7) What's on your bookshelf to read?
Research books for another project are on my bookshelf currently. To Be Loved: The Music, The Magic, The Memories of Motown, an autobiography by Berry Gordy and Blueswomen: Profiles Of 37 Early Performers, With An Anthology Of Lyrics 1920-1945 by Anna Stong Bourgeois, to name a couple. When I can relax and read for pleasure soon I plan to read your new book when it’s released, along with the most recent releases by Donna Hill, Sharon Ewell Foster, Shelia Goss and Francis Ray.
8) If someone wanted to write a book or memoir based on your life, what would be the title? Why?
Blessed would be the title and the reason is because I have been extraordinarily blessed throughout my life. I am very grateful.
9) What are three things you can't go without on a regular basis?
Laughter, Love, and Prayer.
10) What was your favorite book as a kid?
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith.
11 ) What's the best and worst advice or comment someone has given you about writing?
I would often talk about wanting to be a writer even though I was writing on an on going basis, but I didn’t claim the title as a writer until a friend grabbed my hand one day and said ‘from this point forward when anyone asks you tell them that’s you are a writer, not that you want to be. It’s time for you to claim and own who you are.’ My whole outlook changed from that point forward and that was over 20 years ago. The worst advice I ever received was from someone who told me that my need to write was a waste of time.
12) If there's one thing your readers wouldn't believe about you, what would it be? Why?
How much of a comic I am. Even people who feel they know me well would never believe I once upon a time gave serious thought to becoming a stand-up comedian.
13) If you had to sum up your writing style in four words or less, what would you say?
Original Provocative Intriguing Believable.
14) What's your daily motto or inspiration that keeps a smile on your face?
I will be a catalyst of change, not its victim. That keeps me smiling and focused.
