1. What is your new book about? Bumped has a couple of themes going on. First it examines relationships and how well do you really know your partner? Second, it looks at how you reinvent yourself when it seems like your life has fallen apart. It's the story of Elle Nixon, a successful publicist. Her life is going according to plan when all of a sudden it comes apart at the seams. Her boyfriend disappears at the same time she discovers she's pregnant. What follows is a journey of self-discovery filled with humor and twists.
2. What do you want the reader to take away from the book? I write to entertain and to tell a good story. I would love it if readers closed the book or turned off their e-reader feeling like they spent time with a character that seemed like an old friend.
3. What was your inspiration for the book? The characters speak to me and I have to give them voice. She is one of many characters that are swirling around my in head. Hopefully by the time it's all said and done, you'll see a range of work from me.
4. What books have molded you as a writer? I'm always reading books on writing, that's probably one of my weaknesses. Sometimes when I should be writing, I'll read a book about writing.
5. What books are you currently reading? I just got a YA book from the library, The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. It's being pushed as the next Harry Potter.
6. How are your books different from whats already on the bookshelf? It's a fun read with just enough drama to keep you turning the pages. You'll love and hate my main character.
7. What inspired you to become a writer? I've always been an avid reader and at an early age, I knew I wanted to tell my own stories. It's something magical about getting lost in a story and it's one of those things after you finish a book, you think, "I want to be able to do that."
8. Who are your favorite writers? Hmm, too many to count. As a child I enjoyed Judy Blume and VC Andrews as I got older I loved Walter Mosley and Stephen King. I'll read anything that has a story that interests me regardless of who wrote it.
9. What books shaped your writing style? Probably Jackie Collins. I loved reading her books and always wanted to be as prolific as she is - she knows how to get you turning the pages. Loved that Lucky Santangelo series!
10. What is the best and worst advice someone gave you on your writing? The best advice I've ever received is: keep writing. I can't think of any bad advice, not that I haven't received any but I take it with a grain of salt. I pull what I need out of things and let go of the rest. You have to keep it moving.
11. Whats next for you? I have two books coming out in the first quarter, they are updates of my previous books, Baby Modeling & Beyond: From the Stroller to the RedCarpet and DreamCity.
12. What is your daily motto? Just do it.
